WHAT WE Do
The Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (JDRDC) hears cases involving juveniles, crimes against juveniles, and family unit matters (except divorce) in Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax, and the towns of Herndon, Vienna, and Clifton. Juvenile Courtrooms are located on the 3rd floor of the Fairfax Courthouse.

Court Status - Coronavirus
Effective February 27, 2022, per Chief Judge Penney Azcarate, masks will be optional to enter the Courthouse to include the public and employee corridors. Mask requirements in the courtroom are at the discretion of the presiding Judge.
Hearings are In Person
Effective January three, 2022, all hearings before this court are existence held in person, except: (one) arraignments; (2) bail motions; (3) hearings where a detained adult/juvenile is on quarantine status, including detention hearings; (4) Calendar Control hearings; and (five) hearings that a judge has expressly ordered volition be held virtually.
Effective February 7, 2022, the courtroom is no longer accepting electronic filings. All filings must be delivered to the Clerk's Office in hardcopy, in accordance with Virginia law.
Juvenile and Adult Advisement Hearings. If an attorney enters their appearance by filing a praecipe or notice with the Clerk's Office before their client's advisement date, neither chaser nor customer must appear at the Advisement Hearing. Upon the attorney's entering their appearance, the Clerk will remove the matter from the advisement docket. No trial summons will result for the defendant or defence counsel; information technology is the responsibility of defense force counsel to ascertain the trial appointment/time and ensure the appearance of both the accused and attorney. Failure to announced for trial may issue in the issuance of a show cause rule or capias for the customer and/or attorney, as applicable.
Traffic Cases
All traffic matters have been continued and shall be heard at a later date. The Clerk of Court shall issue a notice and summons to all parties when the matters are set for trial. Any discover or summons issued by the Clerk of Courtroom for traffic matters prior to July 1, 2020 can be overlooked.
All petitions regarding Kid in Need of Supervision of Child in Need of Services (CHINS) have been continued. The Clerk of Court shall result a observe and summons to all parties when the matters are set up for trial. Any notice or summons issued by the Clerk of Court for a CHINS matter prior to July 1, 2020 can be disregarded.
